Emanuel AME Comfort Quilt Project
As we all are so painfully aware, Charleston, SC has been saddened by the horrific tragedy that occurred at Emanuel AME Church on Wednesday, June 17th 2015. Despite their devastating loss, Emanuel AME Church and immediate family members of the victims have been the very image of Christ’s mercy and grace.
In an effort to bring comfort to the families that have lost loved ones, Cobblestone Quilters Guild is facilitating a project to make quilts to comfort them. We will be working in conjunction with local, state and national quilt guilds in a unified effort to wrap these families in love and comfort. This is a project of love and unity to provide quilts for the families of the victims of Emanuel AME Church.
We are asking for 12.5” unfinished blocks that will be assembled into tops. Whole quilt tops of your own design are also welcome! FIVE of our fabulously talented AND GENEROUS long arm quilters have offered to help quilt the tops we create. The comfort quilts will then be delivered to Emanuel AME church to be distributed to those affected.
CLICK HERE for all the details.
Blocks, quilts, and other donations may be brought to the July Cobblestone Guild meeting August 13th, mailed to Vicki Eslick (1105 Wesley Grove Rd., Cottageville, SC 29435) or dropped off at any of our local quilt shops who have graciously agreed to be drop off sites for blocks or finished quilts.

Our president, Wendy Fernau, has issued a "Miniature Challenge" to our members. The only rules are that they must meet our quilt show criteria for miniatures. (Category not determined by size alone; it must be a small version of a full sized quilt or wall hanging. Maximum block size is 4” and the longest side of the quilt must be no more than 24”. Includes all techniques). Bring your finished quilt to the October meeting where they will be judged by our members, prizes for first, second and third. They may be any technique, traditional patchwork, paper-pieced or art quilts. Middle layer may be thin batting or flannel. Check out all the online resources for ideas.
Dianna's Golden Needle
Dianna, a young lady from NC, is working towards her Girl Scout Gold Award Project by making twin size quilts for teens who age out of the Foster care program, while also raising community awareness about the needs for Foster Care. She hopes to collect "Scrappy Trips Around the World" blocks (Bonnie Hunter's fun pattern is found at http://quiltville.com/scrappytripspf.html) for these quilts from every state in the country. Members are encouraged to bring blocks for this project to the July meeting. For more info on this worthy endeavor click here.

Friendship Splinter Group issues a challenge to make some FIDGET QUILTS. Do you have One hour to spare? To make our first Fidget Quilt only took one hour... We have two facilities that have asked for our support making Fidget Quilts. Fidget quilts give wondering hands comfort to Alzheimer, Dementia and Autistic children. Check out google for more ideas: Fidget Quilts are similar to a toddler’s busy book with activities. Make a small quilt sandwich (backing, batting, and top). They don’t have to be big 18” x18 (about the size of a placemat). What to put on them? Goggle: Fidget Quilt to see examples. Some suggestions: Different textured material, bright colors, fleece, flannel, UFO blocks, smocking, tucking, bright colors, ribbons. Other suggestion; Velcro, buckles, pockets (cut off shirts), zippers, bath scrunches, things that makes noise.
Guidelines: 1) Make it durable – for continual washing. 2) Bright cloth, 3) Think about chocking hazard, 4) Nothing that fingers can get suck in. Contact Enid Edgeworth directly, or send an inquiry through the contact page. And.... post your creation on our Facebook Group!
